EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

As part of my Master’s thesis in Instructional Design and Technology, I developed an interactive website and Virtual Reality experience in collaboration with the California State University, Northridge | Career Center. The course was designed to teach essential 21st-century soft skills, with the module below showcasing our research and design approach for Emotional Intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence

The project explored how immersive technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) and Multimedia Learning, combined with Emotional Design principles, could enhance learning experiences.

By integrating problem-based scenarios and simulations, the course enabled learners to understand, practice, and apply soft skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork.

Learning Theories

Grounded in Andragogy and Self-Directed Learning theories, the project aimed to motivate students and prepare them to navigate the fast-evolving demands of the modern workforce. This innovative approach provided learners with the interpersonal skills necessary for career success.

This project marked the first integration of a Virtual Reality experience with a web-based course for an immersive learner journey.

The VR component was designed to provide users with a safe, simulated space to practice real-world scenarios, enhancing their understanding and application of soft skills.

Design

As the Product Manager, my role focused on designing the 2D vector-based interface elements, website, and contributing to the creation of 3D assets for the virtual environments.

The team consisted of two student developers who programmed the VR experience using Unity and a student assistant who managed the design of the remaining 3D environments and assets.

The collaboration combined 2D and 3D design with interactive storytelling. This blend of visual and functional design ensured users a cohesive and impactful learning experience.
